Public Bid Board

Upcoming Iowa county, city and Iowa DOT jobs with dirt work — grading, excavation, culverts, ditches and drainage — in one free list. Each one links to the official bid notice.

How it works for contractors

  1. Find a job here. We list public jobs that have dirt work in them, soonest bid date first.
  2. Open the official notice. Plans, specs, bid forms and the exact deadline are on the agency's notice — always go by that.
  3. Bid with the agency directly. These jobs aren't bid through DirtBidder. You submit to the county, city or Iowa DOT the way their notice says.

It's free. DirtBidder doesn't charge anything for public jobs and isn't part of the bidding.

What you'll usually need to bid public work
  • A bid bond (bid security) with your bid. The amount is on each notice.
  • Iowa DOT jobs: DOT prequalification and a Bid Express account (bidx.com) set up before the letting.
  • If you win: a performance bond and a certificate of insurance, usually within a few weeks.
  • Smaller county jobs are often simpler — call the county engineer's office on the notice and ask.
What "Advertised" and "Estimated" mean
  • Advertised The official notice is out. You can get plans and bid now.
  • Estimated On the Iowa DOT's list of upcoming projects, but not advertised yet. The date can move. Plans usually post about 3 weeks before the letting.
